Illustration Friday-Fortune
Click image for a larger view.
This is my entry of IF's "fortune" topic. Drew the shapes in Freehand, painted a background that I'd textured with paper triangles. Painted the pig texture. Combined in Photoshop. Created Friday, specifically for the challenge.
The second image is a variation I decided to try on Saturday... I think I like the simplicity of the first one.

we are on the same wave-length Scott! if i knew illustrator or photoshop i would have made a house shaped piggy back! Excellent idea and i love the green!
i like the texture scott and the pig is adorable.
I like the idea, and I love the textures you created both in the background and the pig.
Great job Scott! I like your combined use of traditional and modern techniques here.
Beautiful!
Love those cool colours, natch.
Send this guy over to the RV.

Looks like you're on a green kick...ver cool shimmery effect you've achieved here. Like the contrasts as well - oh, and your new icon!
Anonymous obviously didn't take any creative crit classes in art school or the comments would have been much more productive to help you push your artwork. We love your vector style... and the green. Keep up the good work.
this catapults me back to good old days... I'd go for bike and big trumpet!
Hey, I didn't recognize you! I like both. The added images of what money can buy is kind of fun!
Verry niiice!!!!!- great use of all the media too! I like them both-- but yeah- I lean towards the 1st/simpler one--- I always have to fight the urge to try and put 10lbs in a 5lb bag-- not saying you did in the 2nd one- in fact think all fits perfect!
the perfect idea!!!
I like the first one more too...although it does seem like it needs a little something something in the lower left corner....very nice job on the pig(gy)...and I really like the texture and color of the backdrop...
Excellent graphic! I like the first one better too. If I may be so bold, I think the framing objectifies it. That may be a desired effect but if you want to make it more personable I'd frame it so the eye is closer to the center. But a wonderful drawing as always! Great work, Scott.
I like the second one best, actually....hands down. It is much more dynamic and makes a better statement with the items you added to it.
Great style!!
I prefer the second one because of the color contrast and the textures the pale line images create. I also think its message is much stronger than that of the top image. Very interesting idea!
This is such fun and nicely done!
i love the piggy bank idea!
Both are wonderful, Scott. If I hadn't seen the first one I would have been happy with the second image with all the possessions added, but having seen the first one, I agree that there is a sublime simplicity that cannot be igonored. It is wonderful.
great lookin pig and textured bkgd and i agree i like the 1st best
oh yeah, piggy bank! love the idea. hmm.. i think i like both..
Nice illstration, as usual. It always amazes me when people say that they drew something digitally. I color things digitally, but I find that there is so much more control when I draw on paper. I only draw with my Wacom pen if I have to, as in a correction.
excellent work as usual. I like that pinky pig very much!
:)
Nice! I like the piggy bank! I used to have one..it was very precious to me! it had a big flower! thanks for the reminder! COOOLLLL
I can't decide which one I like the best. The piggy bank image is great, and it looks wonderful against the simple green background. I do like the idea of all the possibilities illustrated in the bottom one, as well.
i'm lovin your style scott!!!
Love the design!!
I like the simpler background a little better too, but they are both so good! (Hey, thanks for your nice comment on my own "Fortune" post!)
Some pig! Really love the style! I like them both, but maybe the simpler one a bit more!
Hi Scott,
The first one is best, I think, because of its simplicity.
Great work.
Thanks for commenting on my blogs.

Neat piggy bank. I really like the simplicity of the first one too.
Hey Scott - thanks for the warm welcome - I'm lovin' your style! The first image here is my favorite, it's both powerful and subtle at the same time, a feat that is often hard to accomplish. And the combination of line, texture and graphic elements in your work is well integrated - keep it up!
That is an awesome piggy bank. I really like the one with the retro images around it. Great design and execution. That little burst in the bg adds alot to them too
both very good but i would have to agree with you that i like the first one better.
wow - your style is very distinct. I'm digging the mixed media and the strong colors - I like the text in monkey vomit too.
piggy piggy piggy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is one sweet pig!! nice mood and innovative concept! :)
Great work. I really like the line work of the pig and the texture & colors.
Nice piece. Great texture. How would you describe the pig's expression? He looks a little wary to me.
Really nice work! The colors are superb. I like how the objects bring in splashes of white, but I also like the simple top one.
great idea! the pig is so cute and the textures are amazing! thanks for your comment :)
Definitely the simplicity of the first one, I think it stands on it's own without all the other items.
I really like the color you chose and I am rather fond of that pig. Green for the background is a good "fortune" type color. And yes, I prefer the first, less complex image:)
This piggy is on his little way to being so Glamtrashy ... or almost!

Excellent color combo and I must say I like the top one, my eye focuses more on the pig and doesn't jump around. Nice work!
i love pigs!!!! nice work!
Thats great!!
I love your work with texture and colour - its really eye-catching!
I like the nice clear shape of it, the color contrast is just great.
Interesting blog!
very cool mix of traditional/digital.
both images are great. you have a wonderful way of using textures. :)
Wow! I haven't been here in awhile. I totally love this style you have here.
