This is my entry for IF's "theory" topic. But I NEED YOUR HELP. What labels should I put on the graph??? Send me your ideas. Things like eating veggies vs. misery, cell phone use vs. car accidents, etc. I'll revise the drawing a few days based on YOUR input!
Also, I want to apologize for not making "the rounds" last week. It was amazingly busy. Thanks for all the great feedback!
Scott

HHmmmmm....wow, this could really be anything on that chart, huh?
Reminds me, I have not sent you the "hand" photos yet. Please forgive me, I have been so busy myself. My "to do" list is larger than life.
Maybe the chart should be about the rate at which time evaporates the older we get.
The man must be an engineer, always thinking about possibilities and IFs. I like the illustration
Great work Scott....love how you can manage to use hands each week...very cool...will make a great book one day...
p.s. I have to take some photos of the manicure thing....but we just haven't scheduled anything yet....but once my friends and I do...you will be getting an e-mail...
Cheers,
Diana
Excellent illustration Scott. Hmmmm...well, as for the theory what about how your chances of having a heart attack increase with the Monday morning alarm?
I like the audience inclusion part.
Happiness - Chocolate - Work
Gnomes - Creepiness - Children
Ditch Digging - Gold - Septic Tank
Firefly - Audience - Movie Studios
Rocky Road - Vanilla - Cherry Garcia
Great work as usual dude.
Hmmm... how about how interesting an art job is, vs. how little it pays? That would be IF on the upper right.
I like the way you worked in the graph paper, edges & all.
Amazing work! I think I'll have to suscribe to your blog.
How about Feb '06 - Feb '08
...yes I've been looking at your archives. You have developed your illustration skills alright.
mmm, what about how many people got valentine cards vs those who didn't vs how miserable valentine's day is for most people!
howz about fineart vs commercial art/illustration. That would be right up your sidewalk and through the door! Haha great fun Scott, can't wait to see what ya do?
The wayt that line jumps up it would have to be listening to poltical campaign news! :)
I like this a lot, Scott. For me there's no question regarding the words for the graph. It's the same as I used myself but I won't tell anyone else if you want to use it too: theory - practice.
Great conception.
hmmm chocolate and broccolli..... ?
*eyes twinkling*
gReat idea scott..
and thankyou for your input on my blog and your thoughtful comments..
Chocolate seems to be on several people's minds. My first thought was the number of m&ms I eat before I get on the treadmill vs how many minutes I need to be on said treadmill. Or the number of m&ms I eat vs how much of a headache I have later. I eat too many m&ms.
one more for the chocolate theme on the theory
chart...like...happiness goes up with each Lindt Truffle eaten...
great illustration, as usual. love the textured background.
eBeth, who is in a chocolate comma from the huge box of Lindt truffles her husband gave her on Valentine's Day :)
You've really got drawing hands down cold, Scott. I'll be thinking about what should go into your chart.
your illustrations are consistently brilliant, scott!
nice idea scott...
uhmmmm????let me think....
"This is my projected web stats from 2008 people!"
Lovely work.
Perfect for the topic!
Why not happiness? this graph seems a great Smile
wow! go grab ANY of the ones richard c posted. PERFECT! love love the patterns here...and his hands. you almost make them look nervous. tentative. like, they are speaking for the head above. great piece, scott! :)
Great illo, Scott! The graph can also be left like that for audience to fill in the blank ;)
You always delight the viewer! Great work, again! Simple, elegant communication!
hmm, i'll have to think about the labels. Cool pic though! Thanks for the comments on mine...
Lovelly illustration!
I like Mick's idea, the "theory practice" version, as well as Emila Yusof suggestion to leave it blank, which was also the first thing to come to my mind as well.
That leaves the image more clean and to the point, and also thought provoking, since one must 'fill in the blanks' as Emila underlines.
And would maybe also result less rhetorical that way.
And not limited to any language in particular.
But that's just another point of view:)
It's up to you to decide...
Have a nice day!:)
Perply
Thanks for visiting! feeling better now!
You know I love your work!
Let see....traditional/digital,
dog/cats/other, oldER/youngER
Hmmmmm....
I was wondering where you were! Wonderful as usual, I go with man vs. woman theory...that should start some controversy!
I really like these hand pictures.
Another great hand-some post!
tnx for your comment and great and smart work as usual...I would suggest this slogan:
"don't give up your intelligence"
:)
have given you two awards for this inspirational and interractive blog. hugs.
hey Scott...well, of course my input would be chicken vs. egg. But thats to be expected coming from me :-P
how about just a big question mark?
or you could just turn it into a happy face by adding a couple of eyes.... Nice drawing--I like the clean lines.
yep, hands... you should be congratulated, you have indeed got them "down" now.
I agree with Valgal, I like her theory. Thanks again for visiting my blog (as usual) and your comments!
I love your illo! It's always fun to try to guess how you could possibly use hands "in this week's theme" -- Love it!!
I think there is a theory that hasn't been explored enough ... the inverse effect clowns have on attendance at any event claiming to have clowns. (gosh, I hate clowns - creeeeeeepy!)
Love it!! To me the chart shows level of anxiety as wisdom tooth surgery draws nearer...EEK!!!
I was wondering what you would do for theory. Nice way to get us all involved. I would say attention to blog vs. actual work that gets done.
hmm how about "illo friday entries vs actual comments" hehe.. or then again maybe somebody already said that..
pfew! after going over almost 40 comments i didnt saw the same suggestion. hehe..
your entry for this week is perfect! and btw thats a nice term to use "the rounds".. 8)
I'm going for the 'Theory of the Smirk'...
Scott, another fine illustration. I like how the graph paper blends in with the shirt. Looking at your graph, I'm trying to think of a trend that's on the rise--scientists who wear checkered shirts? Or remember how we were supposed to become paperless with the advent of the home computer? How about "amount of paper used per household since the popularization of the PC".
Keep 'em coming.
Love the grid paper overlay! I like emila yusof's idea that this is left blank, then the viewer will fill it in themselves with whatever pops into their head at the time. Your lines are beautiful! (I wish I had the patience for Freehand) ;-)
great illo and love the audience participation. How about time on public transport vs number of times you get sick?!
Your blog theory is great - to explain everything with hands. About the graph ... seems like something tehnical ;-).
I'm still laughing at "gnomes-creepiness-children", and the "theory of the smirk". Chocolate seems to be everybody's favorite though, but I say what about cheese!?
