Illustration Friday-Garden

Click image for a larger view.

My entry for IF's garden topic.

If anyone's interested, I think I will submit one illustration to a juried contest. I'm thinking about, "Soar", "Tales and Legends", "Choose", or "Open". I would welcome and value your opinions on these matters.

Being seeing lots of whales lately, and recently humpback whales, which I think are my favorite. They are the most likely to be demonstrative, and most likely to interact with whale watchers. Also seeing Dall's Porpoise, which look like little killer whales.

Have a great week!

Scott

couldnt find open... but of the ones i viewed... I like soar the best... The reason? there is the obvious and the not so obvious... . You read the title.. *Soar* then Firstly you see the upraised hand...and then there is that shadow...which is interesting and repeats the shape.. so you have a dynamic interest. The shadow (bird) comprehensively underscores the word and then you RE-discover the word..It just seems to have different levels of depth of meaning for me. In my opinion... *smiling here* IM certain you will have many!

Very nice texture in this and your placement is great! Lovely triangulation.

Long time no comment... thought I'd stop by and have a look.

I see you've made loads of new stuff which is all very good as usual.

I've finally found the time (or bothered to use it) to enter this week's IF. Bit rusty however.

Anyhoo, good job once again!

I really like the style and feeling of your drawings. Your hands are terrific. As for one to submit to a contest, all of the pieces you mention are great, but I actually like Blanket and Leap quite a bit more. My sensibilities may be a bit singular and skewed, but the humor of Leap appeals to me on multiple levels. As for Blanket, I find the colors and composition extremely satisfying. Just my two cents. Keep up the excellent work.

This is of course fabulous as usual. I really like the colors you choose. My favorites for your entries would be choose or tales and legends. They just seem so complete and full of exciting detail to me. And I love the colors of them!

Excelent contribution for this week's topic's, realy great!

My favourite is "choose" because it's not a comum subject, I love the colors and it´s full a detail that I like to see in a illustration!
Great week for you too.

This is a really pleasing piece, I love cross sections with the hidden glimpses they offer. The composition works really well too with your trademark hands.
As for the competition, I am really fond of your 'choose' piece...as much for the concept as the art. (And thank you for your comment)

I like this one too. Nice work as usual. But conceptually a little "expected?". I hope that I don't sound harsh. I don't mean to. I just love when you come at things from a "different" angle.

I like choose, and also think you might consider stitch3.jpg for the competition. I like the android stitching himself up! And think it's unique enough to catch a juror's eye. Having judged Addy awards in the past - that's my two cents... Good Luck!

Keep in mind, jurors will probably not even see the TItle of the pieces, unless they turn over the work to see that on the back. So I think you need to go with really strong images.

You do such good, quality work Scott it's hard to choose one over another. They are all equally well done. Whichever you choose, I wish you luck or as they say over here "Merde" (which means shit literally, but is good luck, go figure).

Another nice image Scott. Regarding your query, my favorite is "Choose". I like the way the forground and background really come together nicely. The text works really well visually as well as contributing to the subject.

You can only choose one? That's impossible...but, if you hold my hand :), I will choose "Soar" because it really speaks to me of the possibility to soar in my own personal way, by looking ahead.

I always check your art out on Illus. Friday and want to thank you for never letting me down. You're awesome!

Hi Scott,
Thanks for you comment on my blog. It was quite a moment!

As far as choices for your illustrations, there are great choices, but one jumped out at me conceptually -- and that one was "Choose." It has a sort of Pandora feeling to it.

I'm partial to Soar among the pieces you mentioned-- it makes me think of the imagination as a means of escape-- but I agree with Richard that Stitch is a real eye-catcher.
