My entry for IF's garden topic.
If anyone's interested, I think I will submit one illustration to a juried contest. I'm thinking about, "Soar", "Tales and Legends", "Choose", or "Open". I would welcome and value your opinions on these matters.
Being seeing lots of whales lately, and recently humpback whales, which I think are my favorite. They are the most likely to be demonstrative, and most likely to interact with whale watchers. Also seeing Dall's Porpoise, which look like little killer whales.
Have a great week!
Scott

couldnt find open... but of the ones i viewed... I like soar the best... The reason? there is the obvious and the not so obvious... . You read the title.. *Soar* then Firstly you see the upraised hand...and then there is that shadow...which is interesting and repeats the shape.. so you have a dynamic interest. The shadow (bird) comprehensively underscores the word and then you RE-discover the word..It just seems to have different levels of depth of meaning for me. In my opinion... *smiling here* IM certain you will have many!
Very nice texture in this and your placement is great! Lovely triangulation.
This is another great illo, love the color choices in your pieces. Boy, it's hard to choose for your contest, but I too love soar.
Hi Scott...
great work...you always blow me away with the use of hands...
Cheers...
Diana
PS...I can't wait to garden...it's snowing like mad here !!!
Couldn't wait to see your submission this week - how do you do it?! Excellent as always!
I like your submission this week! Very nice, as always
I love the simplicity of this Scott! You did such an excellent job on all the elements! The hand is perfect. . .well it all really is!!
you really make this look effortlessly done, faboo! i can almost smell the soil, i miss planting flowers! you get to see whales where you are, how unbelievable!! i think i would cry every time....that's because i'm easily misty, but still they're amazing...
a : )
I like Garden the best (although this wasn't on your list). My 2nd favorite is Choose but all are nice!
Scott, I really like your hand illustrations! I also love to draw hands and know how difficult it can be....your work is very impressive. My favorite two are "Open" and "Garden". Best of luck!!
I vote for Open.
you are so great at the hand illustrations! I like this one how it looks like to plant doesn't want to be dug up. At least that's my interpretation!
and another simply fantastic job! i never get tired of your hand drawings...
Looks like you really found your style Scott. I like how you can see the roots in the ground from the side. Excellent job here.
very nice, great work
Long time no comment... thought I'd stop by and have a look.
I see you've made loads of new stuff which is all very good as usual.
I've finally found the time (or bothered to use it) to enter this week's IF. Bit rusty however.
Anyhoo, good job once again!
Nice look to this, Scott, I really like the ground texture and over all composition.
I really like the style and feeling of your drawings. Your hands are terrific. As for one to submit to a contest, all of the pieces you mention are great, but I actually like Blanket and Leap quite a bit more. My sensibilities may be a bit singular and skewed, but the humor of Leap appeals to me on multiple levels. As for Blanket, I find the colors and composition extremely satisfying. Just my two cents. Keep up the excellent work.
This is of course fabulous as usual. I really like the colors you choose. My favorites for your entries would be choose or tales and legends. They just seem so complete and full of exciting detail to me. And I love the colors of them!
great concept as usual, and well done as usual!
:)
I like this 'soft colors' and the pure line
i like the roots on this one, will look at the others soon.
Excelent contribution for this week's topic's, realy great!
My favourite is "choose" because it's not a comum subject, I love the colors and it´s full a detail that I like to see in a illustration!
Great week for you too.
Marília.
it takes me a while to draw hands. 'A good challenge', I tell my art students. You make it look easy....very clean! Nice!
wonderful image....makes me want to be out in the garden...great about your seeing so many whales and dolphins....when we lived in San Diego we went whale watching and saw a breach...what a thrill !
Scott, incredible piece... beautifully rendered in a strong, simple composition. loving the texture and color palette
i think all are great. but i'm drawn to Choose.
This is a really pleasing piece, I love cross sections with the hidden glimpses they offer. The composition works really well too with your trademark hands.
As for the competition, I am really fond of your 'choose' piece...as much for the concept as the art. (And thank you for your comment)
Beautiful image again this week! I think Soar is my favourite though, it's such an interesting work... I love the repetition you've used.
My favorite was "soar" with the flaired fingers on the hands.
love this weeks post- thoughtful and creative!
My vote is for CHOOSE for an entry- it really has depth and meaning, and your digital expertise really shines in this one.

great hand illustrations, as always!
I love your color choices in all your pieces! Garden is my favorite. Among your chosen favs for the competition, I would have to say I like the layers of text on Tales and Legends. Great stuff! (also, thanks for the comment!)
Dude, I want to see some whale pics!! Right away! :-)
i love whale!
yeah!
for the contest why not blanket? it's a nice one!
anyway thanks for comment my illu :)
Great work. Your bold, graphic style is visually appealing.
I think this illustration is beautiful.
Yet another great one.
Thanks for visiting...
He/She definitely loves cheese.
Not one of my favorite pieces, but, the garden reminds me of what's to come...
You have created another great image...
Your illos are always really good. I love the hands.
I like this one too. Nice work as usual. But conceptually a little "expected?". I hope that I don't sound harsh. I don't mean to. I just love when you come at things from a "different" angle.
I like choose, and also think you might consider stitch3.jpg for the competition. I like the android stitching himself up! And think it's unique enough to catch a juror's eye. Having judged Addy awards in the past - that's my two cents... Good Luck!
Keep in mind, jurors will probably not even see the TItle of the pieces, unless they turn over the work to see that on the back. So I think you need to go with really strong images.
You do such good, quality work Scott it's hard to choose one over another. They are all equally well done. Whichever you choose, I wish you luck or as they say over here "Merde" (which means shit literally, but is good luck, go figure).
Nice illustration of garden and work. I appreciated that you liked my winter garden! Thanks!
About the contest, I like choose and plain. They are both so complex, especially in the two meanings in plain.
it's wonderful!
I really love this one Scott! I also love Blanket (i notice that is not on the list) but it seems like an important piece, soar, garden and choose. Great pieces and i wish you good luck in your submissions!
Nice composition, the execution is brilliant as always. I particularly like the clever way you've used your colour palette.
For me, I'd submit "choose", it sort of speaks for itself.
very cool piece, scott...always love your style. great work!
A great addition to your hand series! Love this!
I also love this one. It's very expressive- I like the colors and textures, he contrast between the knife and the background... Excellent!
excellent :o)
Best Wishes,
Issi
The is clever as always Scott!
The muted colors of this piece is awesome...excellent hand as always!
As for the juried contest, I like "soar" alot. Great composition and also a great concept. Good luck with that!
great, as usual scott. i think i like SOAR best. hard to choose, though. good luck!!!
teri
Another nice image Scott. Regarding your query, my favorite is "Choose". I like the way the forground and background really come together nicely. The text works really well visually as well as contributing to the subject.
You can only choose one? That's impossible...but, if you hold my hand :), I will choose "Soar" because it really speaks to me of the possibility to soar in my own personal way, by looking ahead.
I always check your art out on Illus. Friday and want to thank you for never letting me down. You're awesome!

DO you take a picture of your hand, or just continue to hold it in that position? PS. I changed my flickr jump based on your suggestion :) You're right. Much better for SEO purposes. ha!!
Another goodie! Keep up the nice work. I love how simple and yet powerful your pieces are. Nicely done as always.
Hi Scott,
Thanks for you comment on my blog. It was quite a moment!
As far as choices for your illustrations, there are great choices, but one jumped out at me conceptually -- and that one was "Choose." It has a sort of Pandora feeling to it.
Cool hand, I like the composition and it is very closed to the topic.
Your illustrations with hands are always so mysterious (on the one hand) and universal (well... on the other hand). This one speaks to me... spring, planting, new beginnings. Lovely!
Another nice Illo. I love how you capture the creases of the hand in every illo and really show the fullness of it using a very art style. Nicely done.
Terrific! I love the composition, and thanx for commenting on my blog :-)
Makes me itch to go kneel in the mud!
I'm partial to Soar among the pieces you mentioned-- it makes me think of the imagination as a means of escape-- but I agree with Richard that Stitch is a real eye-catcher.
Another great piece! I'm always so impressed at your ability to take one subject to interpret so many different topics!
I'm partial to soar...it's very imaginative.
Great illustration! Your work is superb :)
a sweet, simple but nice work!
Lovely work, as ever. In terms of the contest, I'd go for Soar, with Choose as a close second, although if asked to pick one from your recent stuff, I'd go for Blanket!
Beautifully rendered, as always. This is one of my favorites. You really nailed this one.
