Illustration Friday-Phoenix

Click image for a larger view.

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's "phoenix" topic. Created specifically for the challenge, with limited time, as things have been busy.

Decided to go with something abstract, trying to suggest a rising out of the ashes, as the myth goes. Drew the shapes in Freehand and painted in Photoshop.

What do you think?

well, Scott.. very interesting/ I think of a Corn Pizza when I look at it, but then pizza is a kind of Phoenix in its own way... rises out of the brick oven to create delight for those who wait with watering mouths....

The shapes, texture and sharding are very interesting, and I am sure you will apply the technique to something else in the near future. Good work!

Well, I can't say this reminds me of Phoinix rising from the ashes, but it interesting, and a toastie golden yellow, and I believe you when you say it may suggest a rising out of the ashes, could be. Whatever, it's very cool!

Hi Scott...I can feel the "heat" of this and can appreciate what you were going for. It reminds me of hot coals. I laughed at Ginger's comment about corn pizza! Don't you just love everyone's imaginations?

I like it! Abstract rules, I have to say though ... it kind of makes me want to eat candy corn.

Cool. A Phoenix's cell structure, perhaps?

Let's see if I have this... it's the coals and embers rising from the remains of the fire to re-form themselves.... right? Yah know, I didn't do this week because I thought of nothing origional. You did. Congrats!
