Illustration Friday-Captain

Click image for a larger view.

This is my entry for IF's "captain" topic. I was less than inspired by the word, but wanted to make a companion piece to "might' which was posted long ago, and reposted again here for your convenience. (I live to make your life easier.) I certainly like the idea of this piece, but it's been a weird week, and I just wanted to get this done. What do you think? Did I completely waste my time?

And for Pete's sake, if you haven't clicked on my profile and then on "mynewphotoblog" and seen my photos of humpback whales doing "bubble net feeding", do it now!!! I mean it.

Another dynamic duo from you here. They work very well together and on their own I think.

You really nailed that topic. Great concept and design. I like how it jives with your fear concept too. I have been fooling with design lately and am at a loss when it comes to scratching up customers.Scott how do you go about finding your freelance design gigs? Most of the work I see online is through cut throat bid sites.

I dig the captain concept and think you nailed it. But for my money, the fear image packs so much punch. And the whales are amazing...I just wouldn't want to be swimming there at the time!

I think this is well worth the time! It has a message, beautiful subtle color and again you made it look like a handprinted piece! I love it!

The bottom one is my favorite, very well done. I like the top one but it doesn't have the same impact, I like the boat but the captain seems too relaxed to be heading into the unknown and maybe a more dynamic viewpoint, like looking over his shoulder as he heads into the unknown, would give it some dimension and excitement that you did so well in the high wire illustration. Love the colors in both though and great work over all! Just tell me to zip it, if the unsolicited opinion is unwelcome. :)

This is fascinating, like the first.
That wall of the 'unknown' could keep the brave boatman out of the unknown.
