Illustration Friday-Grow

Click image for a larger view.

This is my entry for IF's "grow" topic. This guy must eat to keep growing, you know. OK, I did it for the Monster Mash contest too. Just finished it early this a.m. I'll probably do another one too, but probably not today.

Shot personal photos for reference. Drew my lines lovingly and carefully in Freehand with the pen tool. (Some of you know that takes a long time....true.) Then painted a background with acrylics, a new orange colored pencil I bought and some graphite. Pulled everything together in Photoshop where I colored my shapes and blended them into my background to let the texture show through.

I appreciate your feedback a lot!

Scott

Another nice one...really like the background and the style of this...and long live Freehand...much better and easier for linework than Illustrator...

I know I'll have to transition to Illustrator. I can use it, I'm just so used to Freehand. It's like trying to learn to write with your left hand after a life of writing with your right one. Still, I'll delay the change as long as possible! Ignorance is bliss!!

Like I've always said... "Don't feed the hand that bites you." :-)

Are you using the pen tool in Photoshop? After years in Paint Shop Pro, I found vectors in PS VERY confusing... they never seemed to do what I thought they should.

Someone mentioned last post, but I'll repeat it: I really like the custom textures that you use. I always admire those who have distinctive styles.

My initial reaction was "Creepy!" , and then "Cool!". It is such an interesting piece. The hand position is very expressive, the mouth and the worm are goulish, and your textures and hand-painted background are wonderful! This is really my favorite piece I think. Have a great weekend!

As always, I love the hand. This is really creepy and your style make it more creepy. I know how tracing goes, I do a lot of tracing with Illustrator; I understand it takes time but the result is great when you know what you are doing.

Grwat work - as always!
I'm personally a fan of Illustrator - but the one thing I DON'T like is the pen tool - it's much easier to use in Freehand (but, don't tell anyone I said that ;) )

excellent work. i've been drawing with my mouse. i can't wait to get one of those wacom pens...i hope it's easier than trying to draw with a mouse.

i'd still be using my pencil and pen, but i don't have a scanner that works, and i can't always afford to take my stuff to kinkos.
