This is my entry for IF's "fierce" topic. Dolphins, cute as they are, can actually be quite fierce! Sharks are afraid of dolphins!
Haven't done an illustration for a while. Been busy.
Created this for IF today. I think I could have chosen a better angle perhaps, but it's done, and I'm posting it.
Was on the ocean yesterday and saw three different kinds of dolphin: common dolphin, Pacific white-sided dolphin, and Risso's dolphins. Plus I saw four humpback whales, and scads of sea lions.

I didn't know sharks are actually afraid of dolphins! That's amazing!
Cute illustration! I like the dolphin a lot.
your "hand" drawings are terrific!
nice job!
Love the hand drawing. The dolphin is cute too. Not fierce tho.
you've been away a long time, wellcome back.
Great illo.
Lucky you being on the ocean!
Beautiful lines as always! I think if the dolphin's head were a little more in profile it might help with the angle issues?
Truly beautiful on many levels!
Nice piece, I've missed your textures! You must have been busy.
Great to see you back, Scott, nice work as always.
It's so good to see you back!
You been missed.
Nice work as always!!
So great to see your art again Scott! Hope you are up to good things and having fun :) I love the texture and the angle is fine. Sometimes when i visit a friend in Malibu he has a telescope set up and i'm always amazed at how much dolphin activity is going on out there, it is so awesome. I would like to be a dolphin :)
What an interesting perspective - a dolphin in hand...
sharks are afraid of dolphins? really??! well they are too cute for a fierce animal indeed..
8) luv your sketch btw..
Great Illustration Scott! Dolphins can really mess up a shark. The dolphins will pummel a shark in the gills until they can no longer breathe. Thanks for posting a dolphin design!
I always enjoy seeing what you will come up with next with your "hand" art, Scott.
hiya scott! lucky, lucky you to have seen all that on the ocean! i'd KILL to see a risso's dolphin!
he's such a cute little fierce dolphin in your hand! :))
Great hand rendering, as always. I enjoyed your illo's back story and am jealous that you are near the ocean.
I've really missed your hands...
This is a great piece, I hope it's the start of things to come!
I love it. Lots of meaning behind this too - since we do hold the fate of so many of the worlds creatures in our hands. Simple yet very effective.
Wow, I visited your site where your whale pictures are posted! AWESOME! I'm sooooo jealous! :) Great pictures and of course, your illustrations are wonderful, too! :)
You illustrations are good! I will bookmark your site for future peeks.
