Illustration Friday-80s Part Two

I was inspired to do a second illustration for Illustration Friday's topic "80s". There was an artist in the 80s called Patrick Nagel who created images that typified the 80s, at least for me. His stuff seemed to be everywhere for a while. Very stylized. So this is an homage to him. I also used the Olivia Newton John "Physical" cover as inspiration, so this is doubly 80s! Two for the price of one. I aim to please. This was created specifically for the IF challenge. I drew everything in Freehand, but colored it in Photoshop. It might look more like Olivia with lighter hair, but it seemed like Nagel nearly always had black on his models.

What do you think?

If you didn't see my original Mac illustration, check out the previous post. The IF thumb nail feature wasn't working when I posted it...

Ha! I'd say you nailed it. Patrick Nagel was such a huge influence on art of the Eighties! On everything from Duran Duran covers to every party flier I recieved anyway! I drew a sort of Olivia styled character for my Illo Friday too. So, I'd say that was a genius choice!

I got both references immediately without reading a word! Great job! Amazing Nagel created such tight images back then without a computer!

Wow! very niice! Me likes!

This is a perfect example of '80's illustration"? Is the 's correct here - because the illustration belongs to the '80s?

Anyway- great mac illo too! Thought it was a photo!

Definitely Nagelesque. I remember when the Olivia Newton John album first came out--it caused quite the scandal.

Oh, this is lovely - the line of the neck, the tendrils of her hair - very 'feel the burn'!

Aerobics, such a big part of the eighties.
I like the crisp clean lines and the sharp contrast in colors, giving this piece an energy and action.

I love that face! It's so strange that you can't hear that song without thinking about legwarmers and headbands.

Very reminiscent of Nagel! Well done. I like your computer too. We had a Commadore 64 growing up where you had to type in the program to play cool games like ping pong, (can you can picture it? -square pixels bouncing around the screen with a bar moving back and forth on the bottom.) Had a joy stick too, wow, were we high tech.
I like your site too, well done.

Oh the memories....I remember trying to convince my dad to buy one of those Mac boxes because we had them at school and I thought they were neat. And now I'm going to have 'Physical' in my head all day. Great work!
