Illustration Friday-Sour

Created this a.m. for Illustration Friday's "Sour" topic. I draw my lines in Freehand, bring them into Photoshop, add color, then paint and scan a background, which gets blended in. I try hard to create effective color schemes, using a special technique in Photoshop.
Have a great 4th of July to Americans.
I'm going looking for whales today, tomorrow too. Can't wait for the blue whales to show up for the summer!

HI Scott!!! lovely lemon...and I am amazed at your hand illustrations...I haven't been by in a while ...great work as always!!!
looks like you've picked a perfect lemon! Hope you spot some blues :)
I love the painterly quality you have in your work, I'm new to working digitally and love combining old and new techniques. Great stuff!
You certainly managed the right blend of colours for me. Love the simple lines. Can an expat enjoy the 4th, too?
even when the topic was citrus i stayed far away from drawing 'em because i just cant :D beautifully illustrated hand and lemon.
Very nice sour image. I love the taste of lemon. Does that make me a sour person? Hehe.
hi scott,
so, you like hands? :-)
Hi Scott, thanks for your comment! I love your illustration! your technique is super:)
gorgeous work on your blog... wow! just beautiful. and you're the first person i have seen who also uses freehand
I love this! You have a wonderful technique!!
marvellous stuff. i am so glad that you are spening this precious time with your first love- the sea and whales. hugs.
thanks for sharing your process. i love your color scheme for this one and you certainly are an expert at drawing hands!
have fun whale watching!
It's yellorriffic.
Good luck spotting whales!
This one is definitely not a lemon! Great work as always!
what a fun collection of illustrations. I like that you have used hands in each one as the common element. I can see how a collection like this might get quite extensive. Hands are difficult to do; to get the proportion correct. Wonderful job doing so.
Very effective ideed Scott!
your colours ARE outstanding Scott! beautiful! Have fun with the whales :)
happy whale watching, scott! :))
the colors are just perfect. wonderful harmonies! :)
Beautiful lemon, perfect yellow!
I saw your photos of whales, they're sooooo adorable! I wish I could touch a whale someday too!
So how is your luck with the whale recently?
This is great, Scott! Great collections of hands! Love them all!
Really love the orange and yellow colors - beautiful lines, drawing, textures & technique. Wow- jealous- you get to look for whales- have fun!
Cool stuff Scott! I like the canvas texture. When are you going to go back to your old avatar with your pup? I really like your new one, but that old one was sooo cool.
perfect lemon!
i hope you had a nice time looking for whales-
great illustration. cool colors!
the hand is well done. it has a nice sense of mass and you made good line choices.
Nice illustration. Wow, you do hands very well. I haven't drawn hands for a long time and struggled when I recently tried to. I'll use your drawings for inspiration to do better.

I really like your style, colors and the linework are really beautiful!
Thanks for the inspiration and for posting a comment on my site!
wonderful technique! I wouldn't have known it was "digital" digital Scott... very good drawing of a hand.
now go view those there whales!
The colors are beautiful!
Hard to believe this is digital...looks like real paint, & drawing... so, what is Freehand? Guess I need to google it... Real great perspective, color, terrific hand & lemon too!
You so such wonderful work. It is always a pleasure to stop by here!
heh, i had a feeling that's what you might do for sour! nice job :)

ps, boring and predictable? You, never!! :) ps, thanks for stopping by ... dot
Your nails are nicely manacured in your image. Wonderful illustration! I like the layering in your work.
Thanks for visiting, Scott!
Fantastic work as usual...
Hey, Scott! Your Freehand/Photoshop combo is very cool. I've stopped by your blog from time to time. Congrats on the whale watching/naturalist gig. Sounds like you're really enjoying it. Stay dry.
your hands are amazing...oh, and the illustrations of hands aren't bad either! LOL
A great use of colour and 'materials' in this. The crispness of the freehand line works really well against the painted background. Whatever your 'special technique' in photoshop for generating colour schemes is it certain has borne fruit here (arrrgh, sorry for the pun). This piece is no lemon (aaargh, I'll stop it :)
PS. many thanks for visiting the blog, hadn't thought about the 4 pieces that way but you're right now I come to look at it, cheers!
Nice work Scott. Good to see you back on IF!
Nice lemon. Hope you had the chance to spot some whales.
Great illustration! I see a recurring theme of hands appearing here. Is this a fscination or just an area you are researching visually at the moment?
so delicate but not girlie, love the color story...nice!
a : )
Thank you for sharing your technique. Its lovely.
Your lemon may be sour but your work definitely isn't. Great job Scott! Your hand illustrations always impress me!

melanie
Great illustration! I love the colors, too. This is an excellent hand :)
