Illustration Friday-Super Hero

Click image for a larger view.

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's topic "Super Hero"!

I was less than thrilled with the chosen topic. I don't do character stuff, but I really admire those who do. So, what the hell, why not try? Anyway, I thought of my idea, which I hope you think is funny. (I hope you get it, period. It refers to a relatively current series of tabloid episodes.) I drew the shapes in Freehand and colored and shaded in Photoshop. Created specifically for this challenge.

What do you think??? And let me know if you "got it".

***Addendum: In recents weeks and months, numerous young female celebrity females have been graphically photographed (and posted to the web...) getting out of limos while NOT wearing underwear. So I created Underpants Man ready to provide underpants to those who have forgotten theirs, thus making the world a safer place for the rest of us.

I love the illo Scott. Very retro feel to it! I'm racking my brain trying to get the reference though. Clue me in! Or maybe I'll keep checking back to see if someone gets it :)

I thought at first he'd been polishing the car with them, that's how innocent I am! :)

Then I thought maybe he'd removed them from the car before someone's wife found them and there was an incident.

And finally, I clued in! Maybe it's because I don't know any girls who do this, though he does look happy in his work.

A fine, immediate graphic - really eye-catching composition and great colour choices. Robotguy is a nice bit of character design!

At first, I had no clue. But, as I read the other comments, it finally hit me. I'm sure Disney and the Mickey Mouse Club must be proud of the way their alums have behaved themselves.
Nice work. I like the look here.

I like your art a lot! it seems very dramatic and intense, because of the expression and the colours you use.. Seems like a protest design card or something like that, awesome work!

Haha, I guess somebody's gotta do it. I hope he has a sponsor though, I doubt that they'd wear K-mart stuff...

So if, despite your mother's constant warnings, do don't wear clean underwear in public, then have a car accident, and another accident that soils your already unclean underwear, that's when Underpant-Man appears and saves the day. Funny!

Haha i get it and love it! you always do a topical idea and i love that!!! i hate to break it to yall but my best male friend was the doorman @ Bev. Hills Hotel and the St. James Club and the ladies have been giving these bird's eye views famous or not for years... They should teach all girls the art of getting out of a car in a dress, right? Great work Scott!

I gotta be honest and say i "didn't get" the joke at first.. But it's one of those pieces that if you read what the article(that this illo could be printed for) about, then you get it ;)

It's a very technically good image.. but you gotta read the article to get it.

Personally, my everyday challenge is to draw images that "tell" something. And for the most part, something that's universal and that most people will get.

That's why i love blogs.. you can post something.. and get automatic feedback! And i dont mind constructive critism too.. it all helps ;)

Thanx for visiting my site btw.. good to hear from a fellow artist.

one other thing.. Maybe if you'd thrown in a celebrity in there(*somehow showing no panties.."PG" of course ;) The idea could have come across more.

Just a thought :)

Very clever...great sense of humor. I originally thought it was a reference to the children's book series, "Captain Underpants"...

Sadly he was too late to save Britney, or maybe she was too freaked out by a Robot giving away underpants? He is a pretty cool aqua robot though, so I would accept his offering of underpants. Yes indeed.
